Debbie has over 20 years of professional communication experience, with the last 17 years focused specifically on natural resource conservation. She has worked in all aspects of the industry, including: website and social media content development, writing and editing for newspapers and magazines, film and radio production, media and public relations, campaign planning, communication skills training and market research. She started her career in 1995 in Silicon Valley as a content editor for @Home Network (later Excite@Home). In 2000, she transitioned into nonprofit and public interest work, and held positions at the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Rocky Mountain Nature Association, Playa Lakes Joint Venture and most recently, Resource Media. Debbie has been with Resource Media for 6+ years, helping lead the organization’s work on energy efficiency, clean energy and zero-energy buildings.
Debbie’s focus on natural resource conservation began in earnest in 2000 when she took part in an international effort to rescue 20,000 oiled penguins off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. That was a turning point in her career. Ever since, she has been focused on helping organizations working to protect the environment. In 2006, she wrote and produced, “Playas: Reflections of Life on the Plains” an educational film about seasonal wetlands (playas) in the Southern High Plains, which provide critical habitat for migratory birds. Debbie’s home in Colorado has undergone a complete energy-efficiency retrofit and both her home and plug-in car are powered by a rooftop solar photovoltaic system. The home has been featured twice on the Boulder County Solar Home Tour.
