About Us

Resource Media is a nonprofit PR firm working in support of social change. We provide communications and creative services to a variety of progressive groups and causes and support issues that impact the health of people and the planet, including climate change and clean energy, social and environmental justice, and sustainable food and farms.

About this position

We are looking for a skilled creative and curious Visual Content Designer who wants to make an impact in support of social change through smart communications strategies, design and design thinking. Resource Media is a mission-driven communications non-profit, and this position would support a variety of projects housed within our growing Creative Department. The Visual Content Designer provides vital support to our project teams and are instrumental in implementing designs, supporting project management, helping grow our list of creative vendors and on-going outreach activities.  Although we do not require prior experience working in any given issue area, we are looking for someone who has a passion for advancing issues of racial and social justice and progressive social change and is excited about helping community-based organizations build power and improve lives.

As a member of the Creative Department, the VCD position will work mainly in support of projects with small to big creative elements that includes but is not limited to concepting thoughtful approaches, project managing outside vendors and creative assets and providing design skills when applicable. Our goal is to nurture this new member of the team to be able to execute creative strategies that command attention, change hearts and minds, inspire action, build brands, and mobilize coalitions, all while carefully stewarding our clients’ resources. We are looking for someone with great design and communications instincts and we will provide mentorship, training and ongoing support.

Here are a some things you’ll be responsible for:

Creative support (50%)

  • Support the creative team and staff with day-to-day project management needs for campaigns/accounts with small to big design or multimedia components (i.e. video production, websites, sourcing images, etc.)
  • Create and edit social media visuals and videos (we can provide access to Adobe Suite programs)
  • Create visuals for internal marketing and for partner campaigns, brands  and visual needs
  • Assist team members with designing materials and deliverables for trainings, presentations, and meetings
  • Maintain and be responsible for internal creative team communications (i.e. the RM creative newsletter, email address, design vendors and updates, and other marketing materials)
  • Writes clearly and can articulate and pitch a creative vision to ensure project goals are met and everyone is aligned with the goals and process
  • Coordinate and build relationships with our existing creative vendors while supporting the creative team in growing our vendor roster
  • Research and stay up-to-date on new creative trends and innovative approaches to projects and deliverables

Relationship and project management (35%)

  • Find and manage vendors for website builds, graphic design, videography, SEO, etc.
  • Copyedit and proofread reports, grant proposals and media materials
  • Support the business side of work by adhering to timelines, budget, and delegation to colleagues and contractors in order to deliver outstanding results for clients
  • Build relationships and trust with clients and funders, and represent Resource Media at (mostly virtual) events and in meetings
  • Understand and articulate client needs and ensuring the quality of all client-facing products
  • Self-starter with sense of initiative who is vocal with their point of view
  • Facilitate easy and fluid internal communications over Slack, email, and phone to reduce delays and misunderstanding
  • Plan and facilitate meetings, including creating agendas, taking and synthesizing notes and communicating  next steps

Digital media (15%)

  • Measure, evaluate and report on social media activity and conversations
  • Comfortable using digital platforms for outreach campaigns, including Facebook, Mailchimp, Blogs, Twitter, etc.
  • Support internal teams on social and digital strategy, leveraging a variety of tools including paid and promoted budgets, influencers, content channels, online calls to action, and online media placements.
  • Help develop and design content for digital media, including copy, videos, graphics, slideshows, story maps, and online calls to action.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Curiosity, and a willingness to listen, learn and continually grow and improve
  • Passion for social change and communications
  • Proficient in Adobe suite programs, with experience video editing and/or other industry-type programs/design skills
  • Experience managing web or other multimedia projects with great attention to detail
  • Experience in digital media platforms and strategy from e-newsletters to Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok
  • A commitment to social justice, racial equity, and intersectional practice with experience executing those values through your work

To be successful in this role, these minimum qualifications are essential: 

  • A starting background (two to four years’ experience) in a communications, media or design agency, or the equivalent academic study or lived experience.
  • Demonstrated talent for design and project management (a design test or design samples may be required).
  • Demonstrated experience in digital media platforms and strategy, from e-newsletters to Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Basic understanding of public policy and the role of communications and design in building support for social change.
  • A commitment to social justice, racial equity, and intersectional practice with experience executing those values through your work.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard office platforms (Resource Media uses G Suite) and an interest in and aptitude for learning new software and platforms.
  • A willingness to learn on the job and be flexible with the fast-paced nature of campaigns and client work. 
  • Ability to manage details and track work with multiple teams with shifting priorities and timelines.

It’s a plus if you have one or more of the following:

  • Photography, video editing, audio recording, etc. (we provide access to Adobe Suite)
  • Knowledge of how to leverage paid and promoted ads on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and/or LinkedIn
  • Knowledge of design thinking frameworks
  • Experience with managing multi-media creative projects
  • Skills in writing and copy-editing
  • Proficient in a second language
  • CRM background and other platforms (i.e. MailChimp, WordPress, etc.)

Salary and benefits

This is a full-time, remote, non-exempt position with a salary range of $60,000 – $70,000.
