The Art of Impact: A Rebranded, Recommitted Resource Media

October 15, 2024

“All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change.”

Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower was published 31 years ago this month, not long before Resource Media was founded. Her words today read like prophecy — set in the year 2024, the truth of change strikes at the story of who we are.

At Resource Media, change is impact and change is elemental.

What started as Environmental Media Services in the 1990s, a strategic communications nonprofit in the mold of the traditional conservation movement, remade itself from the inside out. Today, with new staff and leadership, we’ve become an organization transformed by lived experience, one proud that our board, staff, and leadership team are majority Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and that we offer fresh insights and deep expertise in creative, digital, marketing, and strategic and ethical communications. The Resource Media of today is an artist in the science of change — we put all our talents to work to achieve greater impact for our partners with change campaigns that genuinely connect and inspire action.

Our new ways of expression reflect this colorful and ever-adapting vision:

Resource Media is a nonprofit creative change agency that emboldens our partners working towards long-term shifts in public opinion, policy, and behavior. We inject fresh energy into movements and causes by telling culturally resonant stories rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of communities on the frontlines of change.

While our change practice finds its roots in environment and health, we have blossomed in the fields of food sovereignty, climate, clean energy, public health, reproductive rights, and the many intertwining branches of issues that reach toward justice.

Our bold new voice also speaks to our continued work with renewed urgency. We center and co-create strategies with advocates and communities on the ground. We also help our partners sharpen their storytelling skills and build their communications capacity so that they can win and sustain themselves beyond the current moment.

The writer Robin Sharma famously said, “what you focus on grows, what you think about expands, and what you dwell upon determines your destiny.” Resource Media has set its sights firmly on reimagined possibilities and shaping a future where everyone can enjoy health, wholeness, justice, and belonging.

We hope you’ll join us for this journey. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming months and scheduling opportunities to discuss how we can come together for greater, collective impact.

Respectfully,

Pilar Montoya
